SMA Welcomes Families to New Farmington Hills Campus
School to serve toddlers, pre-schoolers and expand through 6th grade May 5, 2010 — Spurred by community demand after the former Echo Park Learning Center closed last summer, Schoolhouse Montessori Academy (SMA) has announced plans to open its third campus on the site of the former private early childhood program.
Schoolhouse Montessori Academy in Farmington Hills, 29230 W. Twelve Mile Road, will start with toddlers and pre-school-age children this fall. It will add a grade each year, expanding to serve students through grade 6.
“At Schoolhouse Montessori, we inspire children — starting as toddlers — to think for themselves, be self-directed, and enthusiastically pursue the acquisition of knowledge,” said Tyla Wells, founder of Schoolhouse Montessori Academies.
“Schoolhouse Montessori Academy is more than childcare center; we’re a school. We’re delighted to add this high quality educational option for area families,” Wells said. “We respect the role Echo Park played locally, and we’re committed to building on that.”
SMA offers an authentic Montessori program that helps children acquire: - strong competencies in reading, writing, math and science;
- knowledge of geography, culture and life skills; and
- talent in technology, foreign language, fine arts and physical fitness.
Importantly, children also develop:
- positive attitudes toward school and learning;
- respect for all living things;
- inner discipline;
- abiding curiosity, self-initiative and persistence; and
- innate, ultimate potential that comes from high self-expectations.
Schoolhouse Montessori Academy has served students and families for more than a decade. Its other two campuses are in Troy and in Canton, where students will move into a newly built, 18,000 square-foot school this June.
